Synopsis
"This book is written out of two firmly held convictions. The first is that the Bible is the Word of God. There was a time when the meaning of that statement would have been absolutely clear and incapable of being misunderstood, but in these days words are being twisted and interpreted to mean almost anything. However, as the author explains, he is totally persuaded that in the form in which they were originally written, every word of the Bible’s sixty-six books was ‘breathed out by God’ (2 Timothy 3:16). His second conviction is that Christians are meant to enjoy the Bible. It is meant to be a constant means of enlightenment, enrichment and encouragement, its dynamic influence bringing a deepening joy into our daily lives. Sadly, many Christians seem to fall short of that experience. They read the Bible, perhaps regularly, but if they were to be absolutely honest about their reading they would have to confess that the whole business has become a duty rather than a delight. Others have got into a rut over the method they use for studying the Bible, with the result that they are becoming bored rather than being blessed. However, this is not basically meant to be a rescue operation. It is written by an ordinary Christian to other ordinary Christians, explaining very simply from his own study and experience why and how we can enjoy the Bible and find it to be a daily source of spiritual power. Dr John Blanchard is an internationally known Christian author, teacher and conference speaker. Nearly fifteen million copies of his publications are in print in over forty languages. He received an award for his best-selling book Does God believe in atheists? as the best UK Christian Book for 2001. 'Do you want a lifetime of rich, delightful study of the Bible? Ligon Duncan III, First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi, USA 'Simple, vivid, warm, practical and searching, it is all that we have come to expect of its author.' — Dr J. I. Jonathan Wood, Whittlesey Baptist Church, Cambridgeshire, England 'Writing with his usual clarity John Blanchard enthuses about the Bible, giving the reader a hunger to plumb its depths and delight in its riches. I will be warmly and enthusiastically commending it to my own people'. — Rev. Philip Hair, Holyrood Abbey Church of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland 'We are all indebted to John Blanchard for such a profound presentation. I regard this as the best introduction to the Scriptures and their companionship that a Christian could first read.' — Rev. Geoff Thomas, Albert Place Baptist Church, Aberystwyth, Wales 'Superb! Packed full of helpful information and useful tips, this accessible little volume will give you an appreciation of, and deepen your delight in, the Bible as the Word of God.' — Rev. Steven Curry, Ballymoney Baptist Church, Ballymoney, N. Ireland Read a sample chapter 'John Blanchard has put the Christian world in his debt yet again. This short book must rate as one of his best works. Its intent is to help people to enjoy reading the Bible!'"
